Datopian Company KB

This repo is a lightweight company knowledge base and portfolio tracker.

It is designed to make it easy to answer:

what Datopian is currently working on
how that work is structured
where to find the canonical page for a given initiative or project

Start Here

If you are new to the repo:

Open the portfolio overview
Use the portfolio tree as the main overview
Open how to use the KB for contribution guidance
Use the initiative/project template docs only when you need field-level detail

That is the intended default path. Do not start by browsing random files.

What is canonical

The source of truth is:

initiatives/*.md
projects/*.md

The portfolio views in portfolio/ are generated from those files.

Main structure

There are two core content layers:

Initiatives

Initiatives are the long-lived things:

products
services
internal systems
grouping initiatives used to structure the tree

They live in initiatives/.

Projects

Projects are bounded efforts nested under initiatives.

They live in projects/.

Portfolio views

The portfolio tree and map are the main navigation surfaces.

They live in portfolio/.

Marketing is a grouping initiative inside Internal Systems. It exists to organize related internal initiatives and projects, not to act as a bounded project itself.

Default rule:

edit the existing initiative or project page directly
avoid creating duplicate overview docs
keep the tree lightweight and navigational
