Apr 3, 2026
Overview
The day is structured as a mini marketing sprint with two blocks:
- Morning: 3-hour block
- Afternoon: 2-hour block
Most of the time is spent async/offline, with:
- Check-in checkpoints scheduled between blocks
- A short Loom video recorded at the end of each block summarizing progress
The guiding question for everyone throughout the day is:
What can I do today to significantly move forward on my marketing initiatives?
Plans of team members
Anuar
- Rework datahub.io content calendar with recent findings (eg, moderators being gatekeepers / posts being removed / getting banned from certain subreddits) to refocus on known communities such as r/opendata, r/datasets + leverage our own subreddit like r/datahub so that these are the default places while other communities can vary.
- Consider integrating Linkedin, X and as a bonus Instagram channels. Think / brainstorm how Youtube can be used. C* onsider how Newsletter can be integrated here.
- Anchor moments: create monthly topics for data content, e.g., World Cup 2026 in June (or May?) etc. … April re War in Iran (?) or something like that… May -> Roland Garros or too small…
- AutoClaw.sh -> where we want to be in 1 or 2 months from now and what it take in terms of content, materials and other marketing efforts. Create a plan for this.
Ola
- Create an SCQH for Product Promotion Initiative
- Create a content calendar for Flowershow for the next 2 weeks
Monika
- Create SCQH/SCQA for CRM (≥ answer questions like: what's the situation now, what is the complication, how can we solve it.. do we at all need a CRM)
- Do a quick research on CRMs + a brainstorm on our jobs to be done as bizdev members at Datopian (≥ answer questions like: why do we need a CRM, what are our jobs to be done, what is the best tool (if we need one)) )
Yoana
- Anchor moments: SCHQ
- Newsletter: SCHQ
Daniela
Execute on the plan here https://github.com/datopian/marketing/blob/main/volume-and-velocity/V1-AUTOMATION-PLAN.md
- Define the workflow clearly: what happens from a channel update to review to publish
- Set up the review system
- Define how sparse updates get enriched: decide exactly where extra context comes from before drafting
- Run the first real manual pilot: take real channel updates, generate drafts, put them into Airtable (?), review them as if the process were live, and see what breaks.
Notes from Granola
Sprint Structure & Goals
- Mini marketing sprint: 3-hour morning block + 2-hour afternoon block
- Goal: significant progress on individual marketing initiatives, not small tasks
- Working mostly async, with check-in checkpoints and a short Loom video at end of each block
- Question framing the day: “What can I do today to significantly move forward on my marketing initiatives?”
- Answers posted in Discord #marketing-meetings channel
Marketing Matrix — Clarity Issues Raised
- Several team members unclear on what “owning” an initiative means across multiple products
- Clarified: owning = responsible/accountable, not implementing
- Owner ensures the work happens, coordinates input, flags blockers
- Matrix assigns initiatives (e.g. product promotion, newsletters) across all products — felt unworkable for some
- Agreed: focus on the initiative as a whole process, not per-product fragmentation
- e.g. “product promotion” = how do we promote all products, not four separate tasks
- Datopian Services column flagged as unclear/irrelevant for now — agreed to ignore it
CRM & SQH Approach
- Current CRM = GitHub (issues/boards) — not a standard CRM tool
- Hypothesis: a proper CRM could automate follow-ups and improve efficiency vs. manual outreach
- Agreed first step is not to evaluate tools — it’s to run an SQH (Situation → Complication → Question → Hypothesis/Answer) to define whether there’s a real problem
- SQH framing applies across initiatives: map current state → identify the problem → then consider solutions
- Anuar flagged as skeptical of CRM need — seen as an asset for objective assessment
Next Steps
- Daniela
- Post plans on behalf of team members in Discord #marketing-meetings channel
- Schedule checkpoint(s) in calendar for the sprint blocks
- Aleksandra (Rubaj)
- Create content calendar for Flower Show (next ~2 weeks)
- Start SQH on product promotion initiative (general, across products)
- Yoana
- Clarify her two initiatives: anchor moments and newsletters
- Start SQH on both to define what’s needed and what the actual problem is
- Anuar
- Lead SQH on CRM — assess whether a CRM is needed vs. improving current GitHub setup
- Everyone
- Record short Loom at the end of each block
